Do I Need Income Protection?

It very much depends on your financial situation and job type. The real question should be, if you had an accident or developed a medical issue that prevented you from working, would you be able to cover your everyday bills and expenses?
Unfortunately, it's a fact that self-employed people need income protection more:
- There's no sick leave to fall back on for self-employed.
- The self-employed are most at risk of being unable to work due to injury, and whilst ACC will help, it may not provide the lifestyle you're used to.
- And as we all know, ACC doesn't cover lost income due to illness, and most long-term absences from work are due to illness and not injury.
Therefore if a period of time off work means you can’t pay your rent, mortgage and/or other bills, income protection insurance is well worth considering.
